Prolonged roof life, improved building insulation, better micro-climate - these are just some of the reasons behind the »Urban Heat Island Initiative« which encouraged Chicago to put a green roof on their historic City Hall.

In pleasant contrast to the mechanical equipment which jostles for space on the top of this 4o meter icon, a path winds between meadows of native chicago wildflowers and grasses. The green roof is a visual highlight when viewed from the adjacent skyscrapers, and has rediscovered the roof as an urban space in itself.
