Stream restoration combined with a stormwater managment demonstration park
A master plan was developed for the phased restoration of Oslo鈥檚 biggest river, the Alna, and the improvement of the whole greater Oslo watershed area. A site located between an industrial business park and a housing estate was identified where a section of the Alna could be day-lighted as a highly visible start-up project.
The clear aim of the project was to combine high ecological and hydrological criteria in the technical management of water system with a design that maximizes the potential of an appealing outdoor space.
In the more wild and natural corner of the park, the river Alna now flows in a naturally restored river bed. Further on at a widened edge, a retaining wall with specially designed slits allows a reduced outflow to the adjacent swimming pond.
